On the pilgrims’ steps: One day private trekking on the Via Francigena – Daniele Cavazzoni Nature Guide

Following the Via Francigena towards Rome, retracing the footsteps of countless pilgrims that
crossed this land. During this evocative full day in nature we will go through woods, streams,
typical poderi, vineyards and farmed fields…a series of postcard’s landscapes to keep as precious
memories.

The various natural environments followed by ancient villas and farmhouses immerse the hiker in
atmospheres which are lost in time.
Moreover, just paying some attention, it will be possible to notice the abundance of the local
fauna, from the call of the skylark to the tracks of the porcupine, roe deer and many other
animals.

We’ll discover the history of the ancient Via Francigena and the Tuscan hamlets, the culture and the local products, an all-round experience, together with the visit of one or more local farms.
It’s possible to arrange a picnic lunch or a lunch break by Azienda Agricola Sant’Ulivieri, for a
delicious taste of the best local products. Alternatively, a stop by Torraccia di Chiusi, an historical gathering point since Etruscan times, today an interesting organic farm.

• Az. Agricola Torraccia di Chiusi: Wine tasting with a visit to the historic cellar dug into the tuff, guided tasting of six labels produced by the company accompanied by bruschetta, meats and cheeses. Cost € 25.00 per person. Light lunch (buffet, with a first course of pasta, salad, vegetables, omelettes, depending on what the garden and the season offer) at a cost of € 20.00 per person. Tasting of 3 wines € 12.00 per person, or 4 wines € 15.00 per person.
• Az. Agricola Sant’Ulivieri: Bruschetta, cheeses, cold cuts, spelled salad, soup or pansanella, cantucci and vin santo, house red wine. Cost € 22 per person. Vernaccia, coffee and other dishes on request.
• Picnic in the open air:  Customers can get their own lunch or buy it together with the guide before leaving on foot. The location of the picnic will be decided together with the customers based on multiple conditions and variables, to be decided on the same day.

The routes are selected on the basis of the beauty of the scenery, with suggestive views of San Gimignano and the surrounding countryside. During the excursions the guide illustrates the various naturalistic, historical and cultural aspects of the territory.
